“I want to disappear” is written in the dirt of the park. A correspondence between a boy who longs to be a villain and a girl who waits for her mother in the park at night.

Thank you very much for nominating me for this prestigious film festival. I am the director, chavo. “Ding Dong Ditch” is an independent short film made in the industrial town of Kitakyushu, Japan, created by only one production member, me, and children. First, I decided on the actors, filming locations, and music, and then created the worldview, script, theme and title in an order that is typically the reverse of the usual process.

I didn’t provide the actors any instructions on their current emotional movement; instead, I shared each characters’ backgrounds and stories, and then had them act based on that.

I would like you to pay extra attention to the acting of SAKAMOTO Toki and KANOKO.

There’s a secret that only the actors and I know, which isn’t shown in the film: the words written in the park during the last scene are “The villain is my hero.” I’m very excited to know how audiences in New York will accept this!

大変栄誉ある映画祭にノミネートして頂きありがとうございます。監督のchavoです。「Ding Dong Ditch」は日本の北九州という工業地帯の町で、製作陣一人と子供達だけで制作したインディペンデント短編映画です。まず、俳優やロケ地、音楽を決めてから、世界観、脚本、テーマ、タイトルと、通常とは逆の順序で構成して制作しました。

俳優には現在の心情的な動作などの指示はせず、それぞれの過去の生い立ちやストーリーだけを伝えてから演技をしてもらっています。

坂本翔絆、KANOKOの演技にも是非注目して欲しいです。

映画には映ってない部分で、私と俳優しか知らない秘密ですが、ラストシーンで公園に書いてあった文字は「ヴィランは私のヒーロー」ニューヨークのお客様がどのように受け止めて頂けるか非常に楽しみです。
